Just received my new 4001C64S yesterday and it is truly an AMAZING instrument. Can't wait to put my Pyramid Flatwounds on and get my McCartney groove on. Thought I'd share a couple of pictures. The finish and sound are flawless!!! Thanks NCM!!!

Welcome to the Rickenbacker forum Scott. Congratulations. We would love to see some photos. Remember 36K (exact) maximum and no more than 500X500 pixels.

Congrats, those are beautiful basses (I even like the reversed headstock!)
One thing I'm wondering about though, do the C series Ricks have the .0047 bridge pickup capacitor? I've searched and searched and can't seem to find a definitive answer.

Congrats and welcome to the wonderful land of Ricks Scott! Please post some pics!
I agree, that's a sweet bass and I even like the reversed HS on that one for some reason(?)
I have a question about the horseshoe on the C64S: Is that a horseshoe or a highgain with shoes? And if it is a highgain with shoes is it the same type highgain as the pickup in the 4003?
I've recently put the new toaster in my 4003 and have been considering putting in this horseshoe when it becomes available as an after-market product (does anyone know if that's happened yet?). I assume that this mod is a drop in. That would be the only mod I would make to my Ricks (by the way).
cheers

I agree that the horseshoe and toaster are a class act look, and would look good even on the 4003. That been said, I couldn't play one with the cover on the back pickup.
I tried years ago when I had my old MG 4001 and again this year when I came back to the fold with my brand new JG 4003 and I just can't get used to the cover. I've got an old 1972 jazz bass with the covers, and they've been packed away in a box for so long I probably couldn't find them now.
My mind says yes, but the hands have always said no way.

I will be posting some pics as soon as I can figure out how to shrink them to the appropriate size for this forum. Hopefully this weekend. As far as playing with the cover on the back pickup, I've gotten used to it. I had a '98 4003 and didn't take it off and struggled with it for a while. I also had a '78 Jetglo 4001 that I took the cover off of and rested my thumb on the pickup which made it more comfortable. Luckily I've adapted to resting it on the pickguard and playing between the two pickups.
I've been working so much I haven't had a lot of time to sit down and play the C64S as much as I would like. It's all I think about while at work!! Luckily I only had to wait a month for it. When I contacted NCM about their inventory, they said as soon as some come in, they're gone right away. They just got a shipment in which Gary said they had ordered 7 months ago. I lucked out. I'll post more opinions and pics as soon as I can.

Now that's a nice bass!
How common is that color differentiation from body wings to neck? Is this phenomenon due to a more limited supply of maple nowadays?

I had two V63's and tried to play with the horseshoes on for 6 months, finally I took them off both basses, the sound didn't change very much either, maybe a little noisier, but I can not play with those things on. (I sold the V 63's) Starting with my first one in 77 I've taken the covers off of every Ric I've ever bought that still had them n (usually only new ones) I have about 5 or 6 right now. That is a beautiful bass, but I hate those headstocks and would not buy one for that reason only.

I don't like the hacked horns on the body nor the "spurting mudpot" headstock. But, I still say "Congrats" to ya Scott! I'm sure you're going to love it!

I understand your feelings about the body styling being different than the classic horn contour John but it was meant to mirror the changes (hack sanding job) that McCartney did to it. I like the look for historical purposes (reversed headstock as well) and absolutely love the sound of this bass. I put Pyramid flatwounds on and hope to purchase a Vox T-100 with McCartney specs one day. Anyhoo, until then, I'll tweak the sound of my current amp to help get the classic "late Beatle/Wings Over America" sound.

Hi Scott,
How about another one for comparison? Just arrived today from the Rickenbacker Page in Raleigh, N.C.
Plays like a dream and the neck, oh the neck is is just so much like my long gone '65 it is hard to believe. Much thinner fretboard to back (depth) than the v63 it is sitting next to.
Just had to share but now it is time to power down the computer and power up the Ric.
Oh yeah, out of the box the E string was flat and the D string was sharp, the set up is perfect for a light touch finesse player such as myself, I'm not going to touch it, for now (o;}.

A beautiful Rick. I certainly wouldn't mind adding it to my collection.

That shore is a purty bass and it doesn't look like they're using any discount plywood on 'em either!
