If I only had the funds, this could have been mine. I knew it wouldn't last long.

One of us.

What's with the black paint in the cavities though? Did they come like that for some reason?

John, it was probably Jetglo originally, instruments never came from the factory like that. That is not a Factory Fireglo. Looks more like a fire engine red that goes to far up on the body with no transparency, still 875.00 is a good price.

LOL...

I looked at it when it was first posted.
I THOUGHT about it for about 20 seconds, the perfect project for an Autumn Glo restoration and decided, I'd better not!

Unfortunately I've seen factory FireGlo look pretty hideous......much like this one.

What withdraws it from easy refinish candidacy is the butcher job done getting old finishes off; look at the highlights on the body at the top end of the control cavity in the main body photo...see all the ripples and gouges? Ugh. You'd have to remove up to a couple of mm of top wood (on a stationary thickness sander) to get it smooth again, which could require a rebind, etc.

Did you guys notice the paint job on the headstock? Definitely challenged!

I am not sure it was originally JG; factory finishes usually cover the wood at the bottoms of the various routs more completely. I suspect the black was an earlier refin.

I didn't even notice that Paul!
Look at those swirl marks!

Anyway, one PROJECT is enough for me!

I can't belive he took the pictures down already! I only nailed it last week!

The guitar stays in tune, plays really well and the action is fantastic. I brought it to band practice and the guitarists loved it!

I suspected those ripples were camera flash. Anyway, the new owner has already contacted me for restoration, I'll let you know what it was. Now out to the shop, to many guitars, so little time...

at the end of his write up:
"Please note that an ebay user has helped me determine that this "Fireglo" paint job is probably a refinish, and that the original color of the bass was probably black, as seen in the control cavity etc. (I previously thought this was shielding paint.) This is the reason this bass is being relisted. I do not believe this has any diminishing effect on the value of the bass as it is now. Lots of interest in this item so if you want it, I recommend the "Buy It Now"! thanks!"

sounds like he used it as an excuse to relist and get more money.....

Nothing fishy here guys, the buyer and seller decided not to go forward with their transaction and it's been relisted.

You bet those ripples are camera flash, Dale...and if the surface was smooth, it would be one bright highlight...but it's not, so you can see the rippled effect.

Although I'm not 100% sure about the original paint color (I suspect MG, then a JG repaint--probably rattle can, then the current "FG"-ish abomination) I am nearly 100% certain that the surface of this bass will be found to be far from flat and smooth, at least in this area.
