For all of us who are old hard rockers at heart; pretty cool footage from the Machine Head tour. Roger has a very nice 4001 here!

Very cool. I love Glover. Was he playing through a Marshall bass amp?

Looked like two Majors to me, but I could very well be wrong. This was the best line up of that band, IMHO and Machine Head was probably the LP that I most associate with them; much like Paranoid with Sabbath.

Yeah, I agree. Best line-up and LP.

Too bad the audio quality was terrible, nice to see it performed before the album was released.
When I saw Zappa and The Mothers in '72 they did a bunch of stuff off of Apostophe two years before the album came out.

Yeah looks like Two Majors to me too, they were known to use them. I had one years ago, was very loud and sounded great. Sold it for 150.00 in 1977, idiot.

I saw Glover and Purple about a week ago. He still brings out the 4001, but It had a non-RIC pickup and the pickguard is funny looking. It did not have the same sound it did in '72.

That's too bad... Glover's tone on MH is great!

Awesome! Love this band. I saw them live last year with Status Quo
I remember watching a Deep Purple DVD which had his Rickenbacker fitted with Fender P-Bass pickups in it, I probably saw the same bass as you Rikk

Great and very under rated bass player. I am no big Purple fan but I think the musicianship in the band is amazing. Its a shame his Ric isnt stock now though. I seem to remember an article where he was having his old original 4001 restored. Is this the bass that he is using occasionally now ?

He had 2 slanted Jazz pups in place of the toaster LONG ago. Then, in the 80s, he had a T-bird with a toaster (I believe at the bridge)!

I saw the band on the Made In Japan tour. It was one of the reasons that I got my first 4001 back in '74.

Geezer butler & Roger Glover amoung others are the reasons I started playing bass....
got to see Deep purple with that line up in 85 and it was the best show I have ever seen.
