I've never seen this instructional video, very cool. He even has a bass or two that I didnt know he had. A Yamaha piccalo???

it was nice seeing what he did with the extra long scale Tobias. I haven't seen this IV yet, either.

I bought it the minute it came out, I'm thinking sometime in '91. It's really cool, but the interviewer was really goofy. Thankfully they edited him out of this clip. I remember being initially surprised to see the neck pickup in use alot on the 'ol girl. If you see this vid on Ebay, grab it! VHS only as far as I know.

I love Chris' bass playin!

Looks to be the Starlicks video to me. I'd have to look at my copy again since it's been a few years. I wonder if Chris would care to tackle this and put it on DVD for us all, once he finishes the Fish project. Anyway, I will try to view it by the weekend to see if this is from the video, or maybe even outakes. I'll report back.

Yep, that was the StarLicks video. I wish they'd put that out on DVD.

Wow, was that nice to see or what. "I was blind, but now I see."

One of the things that popped out for me was how he played "The Fish"... He played the first set of harmonics on the 12th fret, yes, but I was surprised to see him go UP to hit the higher notes by playing them straight, rather than going halfway down the fretboard to play the the higher notes with harmonics again.

Chris told me tonight that he never did really like that video because of having to stop and do the commentary.

Sometime in the future, it is planned to have a special film camera focused strictly on Chris during a regular concert performance onstage. It will be focused only on Chris, his fretboard and left hand, and as much of his right as is needed to provide a critical view of his fingering.

A DVD will be produced of this, and ideally a companion book of strictly-correct note-for-note transcription of that performance, matching what you see on the filmed set.

Neat, huh? As I was describing this idea to Scotty, before Chris even got on the phone, she freaked that she had already suggested this to Chris just last week He is already set on doing it.

Brothers (and sisters ) this lady Scotland Isabel Squire is having a BIG positive influence on Chris!! Yippee......

The video had it's good points,it was a chance to see the RM1999 up close and get an insight into the Squire sound.I had my VHS copy transfered to DVD for fear of wearing it out.

The piccalo bass was a proton i think,it started off as a midi bass but Chris said that after a while,he just keeped the bass and enjoyed using it.

A new dvd on Chris's bass playing style would be brilliant, finger's crossed.

I bought that Starlicks video when it first came out, and was hugely disappointed. Not because of Chris, but because of the interviewer and his pedestrian questions (and he seemed way too starstruck to be able to handle the interview properly).

Yes the interviewer was a bit of a Yes/Squire fan.I think that,the Starlicks Video will become a collecters item for Chris Squire fans like the Rickenbacker/Chris Squire poster has been.

Thankfully i managed to get hold of both items,though the poster was the hardest one to find.

What I'd like to see... If you ever watched a Steve Howe video called "Careful with that axe", it's just Steve, at his home, playing guitars and discussing quite casually his influences and music throughout his career - very informal and personal. I think it would be great if Chris did something similar. If he wanted to include an extra chapter where he gives specific instruction as to how he plays the pieces and gets his tone, that would be welcome as well!

There is a DVD out by the late, great Chet Atkins, where he plays each song twice, once as a performance and then slower, with narration and split screen cameras on both hands. Not only is it one of the best instructional videos I've ever seen, it is very personal, like Chet is in the room speaking only to you. If Chris ever decided to do another instructional video, my vote is for that format.

Why not find a good director who knows his subject intimately... you know, someone like Vince Gallo...
