While it’s long been generally accepted that the first record to be played on BBC Radio 1 was the Move’s Flowers In The Rain, according to the BBC, in its opinion, such is not technically correct. For a more detailed explanation please see:

Also interesting to read is what happened to all the royalties that were generated over the years from the record's inclusion in countless compilations due to the resulting legal involvement of Labour Prime Minister, Harold Wilson.

Interesting Peter especially to those of us in UK. The Move did nothing in US of course.
Theme 1 was a specially commissioned piece written by George Martin and was played a few minutes prior to the launch of Radio 1 and indeed Radio 2 on 30/9/1967. Here in UK prior to that there was only thee radio station The Light Programme, Home Service and Third Programme each concentrating on entertainment , news and classical music, I suspect the naming of Radio 1,2 3 etc. was probably inspired by the fact that the third choice was called the Third programme.
At 5.30 a.m on 30/9 Breakfast Special was broadcast as usual on the Light programme shortly before 7 a.m a n announcement was made basically telling listeners that they should get ready to switch, the show being broadcast would continue on Radio 2 but Radio 1 would start.
The actual playlist for the first show cities Beefeaters theme by Johnny Dankworth as the first record but frankly splitting hairs though technically correct, not played in it's entirety and interspersed with that annoying barking dog which Blackburn called Arnold.
here is actual listing for that first show Peter,
how many of these do we all remember, I don't recall 11 and 14 at all to be honest.
Of course in States and no doubt Canada at the time 67 there would I'm sure be 100's of radio stations but to us here in blighty this was a big deal.

I remember one song by the Move that was later done by ELP. Do ya etc. I liked The Moves version a lot better.
I am a broadcast band DXer (long distance) as well as a ham radio operator and occasionally get BBC, Radio 1 etc. here on the broadcast band.
