Very nice, I have a question that I always wondered and I think this instrument just answered it, did Ric ship guitars and basses with trim color opposite of the pickguards and truss rod covers? I always though that the trim matched all the other plastic and when I saw basses with white trim and black pick guards and truss rod covers that someone had switched them.

Hm... A fit companion to my 1979 4080AG.
Yes, my 4080, which has white bindings, originally came with black pickguards and trc's, and I've seen many a 4001 bass with those too. Totally stock.
I wish one of you guys would pick up the above Mapleglo 4080. Paul, are you there? Come in, please.

Interesting thing about the instrument. I went to the other photos listed and there's a photo from Mike Parks page (http://homer.netmar.com/~muscon2/r1.jpg) but he lists the bass with a different serial number than what the seller is offering.

Yeah, I've seen some 4001's with black pickguards and TRC's but I had always assumed they had been changed, I guess you learn something new everyday.

Wow, This is a Beauty. What is it Worth???

You guys were right on with the Gold 4003S8,
So what would one pay to get this Beauty??

How does this Bass work?

I guess somewhere in the $4 000,00 range.
The 4080 Model plugs into a single amp, or into two amps if you wish to go stereo. The 'guitar half' plays great through a bass amplifier - at least that's my experience with my 4080. No, you can't switch both necks on at the same time, unless you modify the original circuit accordingly.
I've had my 4080 for 21 years now, and I certainly do not intend to part with it.

Thanks, Sergio, I love this, as a collecter,But I can't play a 6 string. Now if this was an 8 String and a 4 string!

I'm surprised nobody has put a bid in. It's certainly worth $2000........I might??
But my wife would kill me, but maybe if I Bribe her$
That means it gonna cost More than the E-bay price.

And here's a pic of my 1979 4080. A few (reversible) mods are apparent.

The MG 4080 has gone for 2,750 only.
The winner made a real good deal, IMO.

Cheers,
JL

If I could find one of these at this price every week, I'd sure become a Rickenbacker trader ;)
