Ooh - tough one, Roy. They're all good versions. I guess I'll have to go with 4,2,1,3. Version 1 sounds unfinished - like a work in progress. Otherwise, I probably would have rated that one higher.

Well spotted Kris, version 1 was not the released version, so perhaps one should judge it on vocal performance. Revise if you wish.
Version 4 was more or less, except the vocals, how the finished version sounded.

Hmmm..... 4,2,3,1. Not sure I like the vocal treatment on #2 so #3 and #2 could easily be reversed for me. I agree on #1 - sounds like there are a couple of tracks missing.
Sounds like #3 is Lulu.

I had a hard time with this one. These were all so close except for #4 which I disliked.
I know who #1 who's great and of which this is an outtake, and #2 who is also great and of whom I like just about everything, #4 was also really good, to me they were equal in their respecive ways.
But I will have to go in this order:
#1.
#2.
#4.
#3.
Hey Sheena, we picked the same order, great minds think alike as we say here in the states.

We say the same here, Bob, but in a different language.

#2

Same order as Sheena and Bob for me as well. The vocals on number 1 sold me. Obviously the backing track is rudimentary.

I guess a cliche is a cliche in any language.

Aw. Why do so many nice phrases become cliche?

Having posting issues, but maybe this will work...
#1
#4
#2
#3
Here is my opinionated spiel. #4 actually does the best job of presenting this song as a natural, catchy hit for the times. It has a certain tameness to it, but it still sounds good...only not nearly close to the simply expressed artistry of #1. That is just supreme. #2 has a great, sexy, drunk young man's voice with a nice early-Beatlesy backup group, but he's a touch out of his depth here. #3 is fun. Cool but lame, overwrought, not a lot of time spent working on this one. But it sounded pretty exciting, sort of, back in the day.
Thanks for making this easier to access, Roy.

For those who may be interested the 4 versions were as follows
version 1 - An early take - Bobby Darin
Version 2 - Dion and The Belmonts
version 3 - Lulu
version 4 - Marty Wilde (meant nothing in US but in late 50's early 60's very successful in UK.)
Based on those who voted the Cloughs Classics favourite version of Dreamlover was:
Bobby Darin 82.5% of vote
Marty Wilde 75%
Dion 65%
Lulu 27.5%
