Wish the Grateful Dead had them back in the 70's when I saw them. Took the guys like 4 hours just to tune up...or were they trying to play songs?

Well... I guess those 8000 dollar trans trem systems are officially obsolete...

Marc... I think that was actual songs the Grateful Dead were playing.
Reminds me of 'Concert for Bangladesh' when the crowd gave Ravi Shankar and his troop polite applause when they thought that the tuning was an actual song.

If it can't play "Free Bird", I want no part of it.

Doesn't that picture of the headstock look like a mockup? The tuners seem crooked, and their corners hang over the edges....

It can play it. Just move your fingers to the right notes, and pick the strings...

But to play "Freebird" live, don't at least five of the eleven guitars have to be tuned in small-but-painful increments between an eighth tone and a quarter tone flat (average- each string has its own "special" tuning)?
This may be Paul's point.

Bloody 'ell!
Is this really a good marketing idea?
Why not just save the money & hire a tech/roadie to tune & lug the stuff for you!
Of course, then Gibson wouldn't get a cut from the roadie's salary!

Kinda like "Layla" with all those slide guitar overdubs.
