The first three records I purchased, when I made my own money were:

1 - Led Zeppelin - Presence

2 - Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

3- Jim Croce's Greatest Hits

I think to this day that Led Zeppelin album is my all time favorite.

First album I purchased with my own money was Damn the Torpedoes.

The first single I purchased was Afternoon Delight. I was 10. My older siblings were appalled.

I don't remember which one was actually first, but the earliest albums I remember buying were:

My dear old mum asked me one year, which album i would like for my birthday,(my 11th),to which i replied,"a Beatles album."

My first self-funded record was the "Hey Jude" album!

The first three I remember buying were Led Zeppelin II, Abbey Road and Black Sabbath.

Dating myself (now why would you want to date HIM?), my first LP was Beach Boys Little Deuce Coupe. Loved all the tunes, and that great highly modified '32 Ford coupe on the cover. First '45s were bought from a five and dime (the famous Vidlers in East Aurora, New York -- still there) from a stack of used juke-box records. I think The Four Seasons' "Sherrie" and "Big Girls Don't Cry." You can see I got into music in '62-'63.

My older brothers had almost everything covered, but the first albums I remember buying myself were, "Welcome to my Nightmare" and "2112".

The first CD's that I bought were "Sgt Pepper" and "Dark Side of the Moon".

I bought (ie: my mom bought) "Sing a Song with The Beatles" thinking it was a Beatles album. (Gee I really felt like a dummy after that one).

But the upside was the lyrics and chords inside the jacket which gave my beginner guitar playing a boost.

Meet The Beatles purchased in March 1964, the day our family got our first device to play records - a Magnavox console stereo. I still have it and it is perfectly playable today.

I remember getting three cassette tapes for Christmas '95 or '96: an album by Weird Al, Jock Jams (I was fanatical about sports), and Sgt. Pepper. Prior to this, the only music I had ever listened to myself was the White Album and Revolver.

The first CD I ever bought myself was Spring '97 - Sublime's self-titled album.

First album: The Kingsmen "Louie Louie" - Ugly purple cover and aside from the title track, some really bad music inside.

First single: The Zombies "She's Not There", mostly to figure out that great bass line. That one and those on a couple Animals tunes like "We Gotta' Get Out of This Place" convinced me that I wanted to be a bass player.
