That would make a very nice companion to the '73 4001 I just got. Image

A '67 or '68 that Graham had talked about, and tried to buy IIRC...

Ah, that rings a bell. She sure is beautiful!

I believe I could quit looking for other basses if it were mine.

is the pickguard extending up to the horseshoe a normal feature? i don't believe i have ever noticed that before, but it looks nice. or is this an aftermarket mod?

Yes. It was shortened away from the HS somewhere around '69-71 I believe.

I believe Graham also had a '69 21 fret 4001 in his sights not too long ago. No?

Graham had a '61 4000 in SoCal a few weeks ago.

I received an email from Graham saying this isn't his '68.
I'm pretty sure he did get the '69 21 fretter.

I see. May I hijack this thread a little further and ask exactly which month of 1969 Graham's 21 fretter was manufactured?

You may have the floor, my friend! Image

I have pictures of it, but don't know the month.

The '69 21 fretter dates from October.

A 1969 21-fret 4001. How sad it makes me to know that I could live to be 100, and I will still never possess or even play one of these.

I need a drink.
