I just got the DCD "Rising Low", which is a documentary directed by Mike Gordon (Phish bassist). It's about how the world's greatest bassists came together to record with Gov't Mule after their bassist Allen Woody was killed.

Chris Squire makes an appearance, recording with the Rick. Entwhistle, Jack Bruce, Larry Graham, Bootsy Collins, Jack Cassady, Phil Lesh record with the band and help Gordon to try to analyze the "meaning of bass". I am a Gordon fan and think this is a great video for bassists.

I have this DVD & it is truly a great flick. I believe every bass player should own one. Also has Roger Glover, Rocco Prestia and many more. There are also 2 CDs and a live one with even more players on them.

Agree. I love the version of "Maybe I'm A Leo" - and even though I hate it when people whine about "I wish Geddy would play a Ric again," I wish Roger had played his Ric on this track! (He plays a Music Man.) The bonus stuff has some of the best playing, like the Larry Graham fuzz bass solo and a jam with Les Claypool...

I am looking forward to checking out the bonus stuff this weekend. Even in the regular movie, the Larry Graham jamming probably impressed me the most.

I also loved the Joey Arkenstat stuff. I bought the Arkenstat CD on Amazon, and it's very bizarre. He's quite an alter-ego to Mike Gordon!

Yup, I saw this on television about a year or two ago.
Naturally I was a little disappointed with the Casady segment on film. Very short "on screen" time and very basic playing anyway. But that is the way Jack is now. He has a very "old fashioned" (in my view) vision of what a supporting bass player is supposed to do.

I suggested to GE once that he should get Jack to do more when Casady plays with him on stage. Smith's response was basically, "nobody, least of all me, tells Jack what to do."
