Anybody have an Ibanez SRX bass?

I have been getting involved with the Carol Kaye forum and some of her lessons lately. She's a cool lady and really helpful, with alot of good playing advice based on real world knowledge (obviously).

Carol's a big Ibanez supporter, playing an SRX 700 4-string bass. She used TI Jazz Flats exclusively in her jazz playing.

I saw an SRX 655 in a store the other day (5-string) and played it a bit. it was pretty nice and VERY light (something I know she loves, as well as the hot pickups).

Does anybody have experience with these? How do they rate quality-wise? They're certainly on the cheaper side cost-wise.

Thanks

For trying to sound like Carol, there's really no substitute:

Having something like this around is pretty much a must too for getting "that sound" in the studio:

I like to ask here because folks here understand quality, so they know how to compare what might be "lower end" products.

Carol doesn't have too much good to say about Fender these days. She calls it a "board with strings" I think. I wonder though if she likes the Ibanez so much because it's so damn light.

As I started to get to know her via email, I asked her about musician's associations with instrument companies, wondering if what the public bought was as good of quality as what she would get from Ibanez. I made a comparison to golf clubs, where Tiger Woods' Nike clubs are nothing like what I would get if I bought a set.

She didn't think too much of my question Image

I do like her style though, as she's not into GAS, but into playing style & technique.
