I just found out that my wife ordered me a Carvin ICON 4 with a AAAA flame maple top / matching headpiece, black hardware, finished in deep triple step Dragonburst for my birthday next month. (WOO-HOO)!

I've been a big endorser of Carvin Equipment for a long time,,anyone else??

I used to have a very nice SC90 guitar, with the exception of some of the hardware (selector switch, tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece) the instrument was first rate. Image

Congratulations Scott,

What is a "Dragonburst", it sounds cool!

Never owned a Carvin, but I've eyeballed them A LOT!

Especially their AC40 bass. I was in a workshop where the instructor used one and I was amazed at the sounds he got of that thing.

It just seems that every spare dime has gone on Ric or Alembic basses.

Dragonburst?

Who comes up with these names?

Reminds me of the underpaid guy who, upon emerging from the subway on the way to his job every day, encounters a blind beggar who asks him for help.

Finally, his guilt gets the better of him, and one day he gives the man one-half of his sad lunch--a piece of Matzoh cracker.

The blind man gladly accepts it, and proceeds to run his fingers rapidly over the surface...

"Who wrote this sh*t?" he rages...

I had one of their basses from the early mid '70s ('72/'73). I loved it. Had to get rid of it for financial reasons (it was either it or the '74 Ric 4001). Anyhow I still have the Carvin amp from that period as well.... so almost 35 years and still going strong. Have played Carvin stuff over the years (friend's equipment) and still like it. Very good bang for the buck!

Looking at their most recent catalog and web site I see nothing called Dragonburst. A search ended in no result. Is this a special?

I am sure you will like this bass. Anything that I have played from Carvin seemed excellent.

I was mildly surprised to see Mr. Schmit wearing one during the Hell Freezes Over show.

He's been playing Carvin for many years, and has his own signature model....

Oooooh, cool color! I love it on that insanely flamed maple! Something about it reminds me of tropical beaches....

I have a great little Carvin bass amp that I love to death.

I have played their acoustic guitars; they are good quality and play well and sound full.

I've always been intrigued by their guitars and basses; fortunately I live just a few miles from their factory so if and when I want to buy one I can pop over there and play one first. I really like fact that they offer the variety of options; quilted tops, different woods, lots of finish colors, even inlay and fret marker options.

You can really trick one out and make it your own.

Congrats Scott! It should be one cool bass. And an early Happy Birthday!
