#3. One of my all time favorite tunes, used to sing it in a band and saw this band also with a different singer.
#1. Know this version also and like it very much but not as much as #3.
#4. would have been good BFTP, sounds live.
#2. Do not like this at all, the band can't even play the guitar line correctly. sounds very new wavy, although it does have a lot of energy and the singer is good, early 80's?

Very hard this time, only winners I feel. All spontanious, loose, unpretentious versions.
4, 1, 3, 2
"The winner" I know well, love the voice, can't avoid putting it on top. I think I recognize the singer on v. 2 ("the loser"), not the most prominent singer or member of this band. If I'm right, as you say Roy, BIG ACT, at least later on. Hate to put it in last place.

3,1,2,4 for me, Roy. I couldn't name any of the artists. Over here in the 60s a young man called Normie Rowe did a version that had the young girls screaming like crazy!

2 (I know who this is!!)
1
3
4 (this sounds like a member of my favorite band, I'm pretty sure this isn't who I think it is, but the nasal style is the same as the person I'm thinking of).
Version 2 is the one I'm most familar with, and in my view, the best.

Here is my selection
1. ver1.
2. ver3.
3. ver2.
4. ver4.
All very interesting, looking forward to the artist identification, as I am sure of ver 1 yet have also heard ver 2 but cannot place the name.

1, 3, 4, 2.
But ask me in an hour and I'll probably change my mind!
Call me a traditionalist, but unless my brains are even more scrambled than I realise, none of those versions was Johnny Kidd, so they all sounded just that bit "wrong".

An interesting one this which more or less went the way I expected based on those who took part, thank you.
Version 1 was Johnny Kidd & The Pirates (Hit Version No 1 in UK in 1960).
Version 2 was The Swinging Blue Jeans (album version)
Version 3 was The Guess Who (version most in UK may not have heard, number 22 in US in 1965)
Version 4 was The Searchers (live at star-club in 63)
Result based on average points achieved, 4 being max.
Johnny Kidd 3.29
Guess Who 2.71
Searchers 2.07
SBJ's 1.93
Most of the US guys and Howard went for Guess Who version as favourite, UK based members went for JK, interestingly the two youngest participants went for the SBJ's.
thanks again to those who took time to listen and vote
