I guess this is about an '83 0r '84, yet the jack plate is showing a T for 1980?
OK, just looked really closely and I think there is a stripe, but were split guards being made in 1980?

Yes, maybe even as early as late '79, I'm told.

The 4003 was introduced in 1980 ... it had no stripe and it had a 2 piece pickguard ...

Maybe it's White and not MG?

Even if it had a stripe, you might not see it as this is a badly yellowed "white" finish. At first glance it looked Mapleglo, but I'm pretty sure it is white.

That's what I thought. It seems like you can see where the finish and paint have worn here and there.

It is most definitely a yellowed white finish, and I think I can see a ghost line of the stripe on the rear of the headstock.

If I have this right, the 4003s had no "skunk stripe" in them, even during the first year (1980). Yes? No?

It could very well be a 4001 with a skunk stripe with a changed TRC too.
I can see what Jeffrey is talking about. I can see it some on the back of the body as well.
Did they put the 7 hole tailpieces on the 4001?
I had a white 83 4003 that had the 7 hole tailpiece and the split guard.
I just checked my 78 white 4001 and the TRC does not have the model on it...Just Made In USA

Paul,
I'd agree with your contention, 1980 4003 would have had no stripe during it's introduction year.

Never mind! I did not see the split pickguard.

Who said you did?

This is a 1980 4003. Notice the split pickguard and 7-screw tailpiece. Usually a 1980 4003 will have the model number printed on the TRC. This one may have had a TRC change. Regardless, it shouldn't have a skunk stripe. And even if it did, white is one of RIC's most thick finishes. You wouldn't be able to see a skunk stripe through the finish or even a "ghost outline" of one.

Wasn't the stripe added in 1972 to increase the stiffness of the neck?
