Outkast - Andre 3000

Post by 4003seagreen »

Just saw a video for "Hey Ya" by Outkast and saw that Andre 3000 (who plays all of the instruments in the video) is playing what appears to be a Jetglo RIC 4003. Outkast is known primarily as a rap group, but this song has a real retro pop-feel to it with some funk. It's a great song.

Speaking as someone who has far more old school jazz/funk/r/b in their musical collection and in their playing influence, I was pleased to see Outkast and the jetglo too. They are slightly different than the rest and it,s good to see and hear real playing on a contemporary r/b tune...

Even if the Ric was a prop for the video at least it 's cool to see one occasionally. I mean I just watched the Tribute for George and I didn't see anyone playing Rics.

Andre's a cool guy! Used to see him all the time at guitar Center in Atlanta.

But shouldn't he have been playing a 3000 and not a 4003?

UPDATE: I ran into Andre the other day, and said it was real cool that he used the 4003 for the video. He smiled and said "Yeah, I still have that one!" So it wasn't a rental or loaned for the video. Pretty cool.

That "Hey Ya" video has such an awesome vibe!! 8)

Kinda like Ed Sullivan meets Soul Train in an alternate universe . . .
Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .
