anybody see this show? i have been watching, seeing a lot of new artists/bands and really enjoying it. when i saw iron maiden listed,i thought "well i can skip that part",ended up watching them perform 3 songs,ALL of which were really good, sort of a heavy yet melodic neo-prog. i was especially suprised at the sound that the bassist was getting. supposedly he uses a real heavy set of rotosound flatwound strings, and he was playing a p-bass fingerstyle, and just getting a hellaciously wicked trebly crunchy sound. from a p-bass...with flatwound strings....fingerstlye.....i was blown away twice, buy how good the group was,and the sound of the bass .....preconceptions flew out the window!

Steve Harris is one of the best (IMO).

Maiden is my favorite band of all time and Steve Harris is a bass god who is relatively unknown outside of the metal world.

Harris is a god. he gets an amazing sound out of that P bass, I know, but you forgot to mention how incredibly fast that man is. I play a lot of Maiden, and I need to take breaks after a few songs. Steve keeps on goin.

I think a big part of Steve's sound are the compressors. Just on Live After Death he had 3 compressors. No idea what his rig is now though.

I've seen Maiden live a bunch of times, and Steve was one of my first bass heroes. It may be a common thing in the bass world, but I originally learned the "root - V - octave" arpeggiation riff from him.

In fact, now that I think of it, I had all but decided I wanted to be a full-time guitar player and quit bass, but hearing "Invaders" and "Number of the Beast" for the first time helped me realize that bass could be really cool after all!
