Did I miss something?

I bought a 4003 in Jet Glo about a year ago. Looking on ebay, it seems like "new" ones are being offered for about $1000 more than I paid. For a new one. Are production waits out of hand or something? Or did I just stumble on an oddball listing?

Production waits are lengthy, but as far as the high prices on some eBay auctions go, that's just eBay for you. It happens sometimes. $2000 is definitely high. But since the supply and demand thing is such a factor with Rick basses, some people are willing to pay that much rather than wait it out. One could certainly find a better deal on a new JG 4003 than $2000.

But how many of them on Ebay are actually selling for $2000 or more?

I highly doubt many are, naturally. I wonder how many times those high-priced ones don't sell and get relisted at lower prices until they sell for a reasonable price.
