a break from politics / on to compressors

looking for a killer compressor for the front end of my new ric/svt combo. prefer a pedal if possible. i would like it to get pretty squishy without loosing the bottom end or being too terribly noisy. so far i have tried a boss cs-3 and a keely. the keely came highly recommended from my local botique shop, but i did not like it at all for bass. probably the shiznit for guitar. ended up liking the chepo boss better, but still looking. aim to try the ebs next. what are you guys using? any hot tips? my other rig is an eden. i really love the built in compression cicuit on those. if i could find that in a pedal, i would be super glad.

Try the Aphex:

Jeff Scott recommended it to me and I have been very happy with it - very neutral sounding. And it smooths things out nicely. We had a thread on this about 6-8 months ago with a lot of useful info in it.

as per politics I say we pass a law that says if the election is in 2008 then you can't start running in 2007!

as per compressors I use the one built into the line 6 bass pod ....

I just use the one in my amp. Never had much experience with the other varieties.

The Aphex is an excellent compressor, but be forwarned Craig, I think it is made in the USA.

If you get a chance try out a Demeter Compulator. I love it and think it does a great job while maintaining the lowend (and no hiss). It's a sturdy unit that goes from very subtle to quite an aggressive "squish".

JPS "borrowed" mine for a few days and he wasn't as impressed with it as I am.....and I'm not a big fan of the Aphex he recommends. It just goes to show how different we view things and that what we need depends on our tastes, playing styles and our gear.

There would be lot of politicians in jail; don't they usually start campaigning for the next election as soon as the most recent election is over?

I don't understand the "a break from politics" part of this thread title; is Craig in politics?

You'll have to click around to find the thread... It was a minor bitchfest about "Made in America" amps.

took the 4 knob keely back. the comp review guy was dead on about that one. thin and no vibe. the guys at the bass shop implored me to try the 2 knob keely. how can the one with 2 knobs be better than the one with 4? didnt make since to me but i obliged. it is a totally different compressor. nice and squishy/punchy , no bottom end loss, no noise, and true bypass. totally weird.

On the 2 knob keeley , the attack & input trim controls are internal and are at a preset level.

I suggest trying out the Analogman Comprossor, Orange Squeezer clone, or the Bi-Comp (which is both the Comprossor & Squeezer clone in 1 pedal.)

I like my FMR Audio RNC 1773 a lot. Not a pedal, but it's sweet.

You mean those things in air conditioners? What's that got to do with a bass? And even more importantly why would you need one with an SVT? Tubes have a natural compression especially when driven hard.

I don't know, Bob, I believe he is thinking of the ones in refrigerators.
