Bought my tickets yesterday for their concert at Newcastle City Hall next April. Selling pretty quickly, judging by the best seats I was able to get. They only went on sale at 10am yesterday.

As you will have since seen (My Gen) I am not going to see The Searchers at Durham. I saw them last year and that will be enough for this decade. I don't like Spencer James as a vocalist, I like the old Searchers. Also I cannot stand the prospect of another repetitive performance of (Young Girl). Whilst The Searchers are profesional in presentation, they are very samey. Same songs (and I am not complaining about their hits) and talk in between the songs. Come on, every group/business has to change and brighten up their act to keep it interesting and appealing. The pits in their performance after Young Girl is Spencer singing The Rose. I can't stand it. Overall they don't have the umph factor!

Very valid question. For this tour the band consists of Mike Love, Bruce Johnston, John Cowsill, Tim Bonhomme, Randell Kirsch, Scott Totten and Christian Love. The tour started on Friday in the USA, moves to Australia next month, New Zealand, than back to the USA before arriving in the UK in April. I'm picking up good vibrations!

The only original member there is Mike Love who somehow ended up with the name although he really didn't contribute very much to them, in fact if he had quit in 1966 I don't think many people would have known the difference. He was the original lead singer only to be superceded by the rest of the brothers and cousin who not only wrote better but sang much better to boot. Arguably Carl Wilson was the best singer in the bunch, he sang Don't Worry Baby among other classics. I'm not bashing him, I do think he contributed an element that they didn't have without him but he was not really a part of the Beach boys famous harmonies or at least not an integral part.
I saw them in 1977 with the original band, Brian Wilson was on piano and Bruce Johnston on bass. They didn't play very long though, it was almost 100 degrees out that day.

I have to say that the shows billed as (something like) "The Brian Wilson Band with Special Guest Al Jardine" would have a much greater claim to "Beach Boyishness" (sorry for that horrible phrase coining )

Regarding comment on Searchers, you are perfectly entitled to your opinion, though to be fair I find that they do include new songs, some of them I gave to them, probably more so than many of the 60's acts on the circuit in UK.

The banter I agree tends to be very much to a set routine and I hate the prolonged audience participation bits they do.

I saw that show last November, and I've gotta say that Al hasn't lost a bit of the Beach Boy's mojo, he sounded awesome on 'Help Me Rhonda'........it was great.

One of my favorite albums by them was a lessor known one called Holland, the hit from it was Sail on Sailor.
