MAHOGANY BURST 370/12

Here's one just completing in ye olde shoppe. I've got tons of stuff going out before the Holidays this year. This and the AZ 366/12 are the tip of the iceberg...
This one was a MB 370/12 with an '02 serial number, so it must be a very early '03. I was to do an amber coat, but some striations in the factory clearcoat popped up when it was amber-coated, so my customer said, "strip it and do it in Mahogany Burst with ambered binding". Done. I also added checkerboard to the back, and red dots to the neck. It'll get gold guards TRC in a custom shade, mixed up for this guitar only.
It's almost ready for re-assembly at this stage:
As usual, more later...

Very cool. Reminicant of the '65 365 OS that was just on ebay that was an Autunmglo guitar. Nice, Paul.

Paul,
Lovely colouration you have achieved.
Question: Why does RIC seem to put a couple of strips of masking tape in the base of the controls cavities? I think I spy some in the photo, and both my 97 and 03 year models have this. Just curious if there is a functional purpose, and do you normally take this away when refinishing?
Cheers.
Simon....

Simon, this guitar did not have any tape, but there are sometimes, on newer models, initials and a model number written directly on the maple...I think the serial # was there on this one. So I covered it with tape to preserve it. After I'm done buffing the guitar out, the tape will be removed.
On older ones, I think it was done on tape because it's easier to write on a piece of tape than it is to write down in a control cavity, or perhaps there was no real reason to do it like that; it just became the custom. Perhaps John, Ben, or Dale Fortune can comment and enlighten us.

Wow, what a color! A bass done this way would be equally as stunning.

John, this is off topic, but what Rick bass headstock is that in your Avatar photograph? Is it customized?

Yeah, George. It's the same color as the "Cowboy" 700C that I did last year about this time.
Migod, has it been that long?

Gorgeous indeed. What color pickguards for this one, I wonder?

"What color pickguards for this one, I wonder?"
He says gold ones. But this color might be "the new black"- it could take quite a variety well.
I don't think lime green would work, however.
(edit) I should have know Paul would beat me to the punch. And I even had the answer.
