I've read about a couple of persons who do restorations/refinishes on this forum . I guess Dale fortune is one and maybe a Paul ? is the other ? Is there one in the San Francisco bay area ?

That would be Paul Wilczynski, Rick..... does fantastic work! I reckon he'll chime in.

Both Dale Fortune and Paul Wilczynski are highly recommended here. Paul is in the SF area. Both troll the RRF. You might want to put up a heads up on the "Reflections of a Curmudgeon" department.

If Paul Wilczynski was clear on the other side of the States he would be worth the trip. Since you're both in SF i say look no further

Vincent, as a collector of solely vintage Rics (as i understand it),would be interesting to hear your perspective on re-finishing vintage instruments.

would you believe an original finish is more desirable than a re-finish (considering the re-finish was of highest quality)?

...and I'll wait until Vincent gives his opinion before I put in my own 2 cents on this (again...).

i tend to agree with you (evidenced by the CS in your possession currently)...though for the ones that will be played out on a semi-regular basis, i'll add to the 'mojo' for the time being.

Personally, I don't like to see guitars all beat up. I don't mid some wear, but when the finish starts chipping off, I want to get the thing redone. I feel really bad about the abuse my `62 RI Mary Kaye's been through-it has some serious buckle rash all the way to the bare wood on the back, as well as a few chips to the bare wood on the edges to the body. It's such a pretty guitar that it pains me to look at the chips. I'm not one to equate "mojo" with dings.

I also feel bad about the chips and dings in my AG Blue WB model, but I've already decided on some work for that one in the future, whether it's a finish repair, or a complete refin, and I was always less than happy with the paddle style headstock-it was the only thing I didn't like about the guitar when I first unpacked it when it was brand new. It's also going to need a refret in a year or two, so.....

Aside from the visual, I would be concerned about perspiration wearing its way into bare wood and degrading the condition of the body.

I DO know which two gentlemen I'm going to ask to take on the job first!
