Unless you have a 3 pickup Rick (325, 340, 370 etc)
down - bridge
middle - all three pickups
up - neck and middle pickups

Possibly a loose ground wire on the neck or middle pickup.

When you say, "buzz", do you mean string buzz or electrical buzz? The solutions for these problems are quite different...if you are talking about string buzz (again), I would suggest (again) taking it to a competent, Rick-friendly luthier. These two qualities are crucial, otherwise he'll make a hash out of it.
If you ordered your Rick new, the owner's manual came in the case. If you read it carefully, it will answer many of your questions, like this one regarding the switch positions.
