"They Don't Build Them Like This Anymore"..

Here's a prime example of what people talk about when they quote "They Don't Build Them Like This Anymore".
http://cgi.ebay.com/1976-Rickenbacker-4 ... dZViewItem
Look at the birdseye on this bass....This could have been a 4002 easily.
I don't know if anyone here is looking at this, but they should be. It's simply one of the best 4001's I've ever seen, and if someone here really wants a superior 4001 example here it is. You probably won't see one this good for a very long time...

That's one of the nicest I've ever seen.

Yes but if they made it into a 4002..........
It would not be a 4001!
I wonder, did they try to make a special one or did it just by chance come out as a corker!

The RM is fine and I've recently got that 74 jg carcass that was on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... :IT&ih=020
I'm a bit scared about taking thr RM out to play so I got the 74 to use although I'll be chasing parts for it soon....
I had a 74 jg years ago and missed it a lot. Certianly a different sound to an RM but it has it's own appeal.
Speaking of the RM I always wanted to eventually put a proper sandcast bridge back on it but I would probably have to pay as much for the bridge as I did for the whole bass, it's funny how the prices climb on mystical items..... I have a feeling that it will be staying as it is with a 70s bridge/tail.

would this sandcast bridge/tailpiece be the same as found on the bass pictured?
if so, this one is for sale via guitarbroker.com (a good guy to deal with). could you swap and re-sell the bass?

Nah! Not that desperate, and why strip one vintage bass to fix another. The Rm is set up well and I don't really like mess with it too much as it can go of the boil easily. (you only have to fart somewhere some of these old horshoe pickups and they degauss....)
I have to put a new bridge on the 74 as well (it's been geddyed) and will have to route the bog out and glue some rock maple into another overrouted bit and then fit....... Idon't know what... "All parts" perhaps as I don't want to overspend
Are the Allparts bridge/tails that bad or is there some snobbery going on?

the bass pictured, is already butchered (p-bass routing, etc), i wouldn't strip one in original/good shape either.

Hey, I've just noticed that some of the C64s have a 3 screw bridge (not the normal 5 screw) is this a true reissue of the sandcast bridge? or just somthing closer to the truth that I still can't get anywhere?
(And sorry, I've kind off bumped the thread)

"We don't make 'em like we used to, But then again , we never did!"

The bridge on the C64 is closer to the current 4003 bridges with the cutout in the tooth and two less screws.

Ahh! But it could be said that a C64 bridge would at least look right on my RM1999
But how do I convince Rickembacker to sell me one?
