Where's the comments?

Is it just me, or have comments dropped off with the new site? I see a LOT more views with little commenting. You'd think one could at least acknowledge the post they are reading. My guess is, since we can now see who is online, folks are perusing without logging in. I used to have the page up all day, but now, I, for one, don't want my name showing up like I am in front of my pc all day!

It is also possible that it is just me and what I am interested in, is not the same as everyone else. There are always lots of comments on the "collector" and buy/sell threads, but I didn't think that was a requirement for conversation.

It is possible to hide your online status (like i did), so that nobody would know how much time one's spending at this page.
Moreover, each view is counted, as i understand, which means that if one has read the posts, and then dedided to think and quit the page, and then returned to make a comment, and then decided not to, and then got back again and finally commented, that would perhaps be counted as three different "visits".

Hi Charly! Hey, if you do not want it to appear as if you are in front of your PC all day, just go into your Profile and disable the little blue stripe that indicates if you are online or not. Then, you can be online all the time and no one will ever know it. 8)

Many people already do this (not me, though!)

With tabbed browsing, I prefer to keep my three forums I read up all day on both pc's (work and home) and just tab over when I have a chance to read. I guess it's either hide, or be present 24/7!!!

Good point(s), Charly. Sometimes I think comments are avoided, or disregarded, because nearly every facet of the forum, in one way or the other, has been whipped like a dead horse. ( I can't recall how many threads have been dedicated to your choice for a new COY). I see new members come on periodically, but I see them make a few posts then disappear. However, I don't scan every topic or every thread. It doesn't seem as active as it used to be, but it just might be me. I'm a guilty party myself. I didn't post anything for about three months or more.

I tend to just post when i have something to offer....either help with a problem or with sarcasm! Most of my knowledge isn't as in depth as that of other Forumites and I see no use in repeating info if it's been posted already.

Also, honestly, I have found plenty of the recent discussion to be the "same old thing" so my interest has waned somewhat. There are some other "issues" I have with the Forum that I've aired in the past as well so no use in digging those up again......I just keep my involvement limited so as not to offend.

II think there is quite a bit of activity here. I check out almost all the new threads daily by using the "View New Threads" link at the top.

I hate to say it but I liked the old forum better, as far as quickly getting in, looking for new posts, adding comments and getting out. I checked in many times a day. For some reason I find the new look more complicated (probably just to the eye) and slower.

So I have probably made only a handful of posts since the change, and I might check in a few times a week.

Change is good though and it's up to me to try and grasp it I suppose.

Now you don't have to look for new posts, you just click and they are all there. I sometimes use the active posts if It's been a while, since you see more posts. I used to peruse by forum, now just new posts.

Well, i can relate to that, but the biggest trouble for me is the font which i find much harder to read than the font on the old forum. Increasing the size helps a bit, but on the other hand... try to use the "A" button and you'll get what i mean.

Like Brian said...I tend to post only when I have a question or can offer something other than just a comment. I've been a member for 2+ years with only 47 (well I guess 48 now) posts. I am generally here one or two times per day though....I always find something of interest and I personally do like the new look better.

I visit mostly while at work. I have IE at work. The new forum is much slower on IE. It is lightning fast at home with Firefox, but living with a bandmate means I'm more likely to be downstairs on the couch playing guitar and singing with him than upstairs in my studio alone in front of the computer. not that there is anything wrong with that, it's just how things have played out for me. I readily admit that half the time I only visit "For Sale", "Guitars", "General", and the lighter fare "Steels", "Curmudgeon", "Technical", and "Musicianship" but not in that order. I try to check out "Basses" but a lot of the time the number of new posts to read is overwhelming.

i mostly view for a few minutes more or less daily from work, just like to see what's going, and chime in when i feel the urge. a lot of the topics are reshashed, but it's the same on similar websites like talkbass,vintagebass/dudepit,which i also enjoy. i will say that THIS site is really great,my favorite for sure. i have certainly learned more about rickenbackers than i knew before, and enjoy the comraderie/attitudes. i prefer this website to the actual rickenbacker website-seems to be more open-minded(about the product).

Same here Charly. On the old forum, i'd just bounce around from section to section looking for the new posts. I could not imagine using the forum that way now. "View Active Topics" is great and all I use now.
