Amateur Photography, what do you think?

I love taking pictures, but didn't really worry about specifics until recently, a real point and shoot, hope it turns out alright!
Well lately I've been trying to be more "into" the details and stuff, and my friend Pat has been helping me out, he's got a DSLR of some kind, and he recently got a cool wide angle lens thats takes wild pictures!

Anyways, these are my tries for the night, after reading a review about my camera HERE and finding out how this guy got the best out of it.

made me realize that the "vivid" mode takes a much nicer shot (to me anyways) the pictures seem to have a fuller color, which I really like!

So, all the shots have the same lighting btw, First shot, Aperture is around 3 I believe, with an exposure time of 2 seconds I believe, I've already forgotten... they're also all set to adjust to Tungsten lighting (so they don't seem so yellowish)

Image
Not bad, this was the kind of shot I had gotten accustomed to over the past year.

same shot, but with the camera in vivid mode, all other things equal... seems to be a world of difference! the colors pop more, just seems like an altogether better quality picture!

Image
and just for fun, I put it through photoshop to see if I could bring out the details in the body beveling, the result : more detail in the beveling, but enough to make it look fake-ish, probably won't be doing that alot

And finally, the shot Pat took of his guitar with his new really wide angled lens and DSLR. I think he said exposure time was about 30 seconds! This last pic is too big to load here, but I strongly urge you to click the link, it's a great shot of a 330 in Fireglo, with toasters!

Any photography buffs want to comment or give advice to a noobish photographer???

According to the exif data on this image - it is a 1 second exposure @ f/4.5
Nice image, two remarks from a fellow amateur photographer:

1. Try not to have any other objects on your frame, the other (chopped) guitar is a bit distracting, as well as the cabinet (although the cabinet can be nice as a way of "placing" the image)
2. The color of the guitar is too similar to the color of the wall, Since the eye gets attracted to sharp objects and colorful objects - this takes a bit of the guitar's beauty, I'd try to picture it with a really open aperture (2.8 and up) with some distance from the background and/or a white background to help distinguish the guitar from the background.

We just finished moving back to our house, hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to take some shots to show you what I mean.

Good point on the background. actually, one of the reasons I had the wall painted that color was because I loved it on the guitar!

I have another wall that has a great color to compliment it. I'll take a picture later, probably only post tomorow. I have some lab reports to finish up for this morning!
