This much electronics on a guitar kinda scares me, and I'm not much of a Gibson fan, but it's still pretty cool. Go to the videos section and watch the "Instructions" video. It looks pretty interesting. Still not anything I plan on purchasing, but worth checking out.

Yeah, that strat killer video is rediculous. I personally would buy a Squier Strat before I'd buy a Les Paul of any kind, but that's just me.

Can't wait to get a system like that for my SG.

Of course, I'd have to gig a lot more to justify it. I could finally play The Rain Song and White Summer in the middle of a set, on the guitar that plays the best

I'm wondering how much 'collector value' the Robot Guitar will have in, say, 20 years...especially the first edition model. From what I've heard, subsequent editions might have different finishes than the blue & silver burst. It's makes me wonder if I should spend the $2,200 for one just for it's investment value.

Any thoughts on this?

I dunno if I'd ever buy one, but I still think it's pretty neat.

It's actually one of the more radical technological advances in quite a while. If it can stay together and not break (the electronics and that mystery knob) then it might be really cool.

I was considering just that...but here's what it has going against it....

1 - edition size - 4000 is a ton IMO for a limited run

2 - It's a Les Paul Studio - for the most part these have never been collectible.

3 - Electronics are generally not collectible, in fact when you pay for the latest gadget, they tend to lose value very quickly. Is the first home computer worth anything? The first video game system? I know there's valuable arcade games but...vintage electronics aren't collectible.

4 - They make SO many different Les Pauls. This finish may be different, but it's not unique for Gibson. DCM for the Rickenbacker is VERY different that anything else they've done.

I was watching "The Price Is Right" today (come on, I work at the station! ) and one of the prizes was an acoustic guitar in an oak and glass case that had robotic fingering and plucking. Sort of a guitar nickelodeon. I shuddered; the lady bidding was ecstatic.

Maybe instead of paying $2500 for a ****** guitar and some crazy tuner...this is the answer...

Kenn-by all appearances it looks like the robot is going to be a pretty good investment. Marc, I agree with your assessment but that's one of the cool parts about "collectibility" to me....sometimes no rhyme or reason. I managed to snag 2 of the robots but I doubt very seriously I'll ever play either of them. One is on the bay as we speak and the other will go under the bed for a while. My Rics and my Gretsch are for playing! ( OK maybe a couple are for collecting)

A store here in Melbourne has one of these 'on special' for AUD$8995.00!! Don't think so...........
