About 6 months ago, I really started to pick up a lot of Stax albums. One that I thought looked good was the Stax Profile Series Otis Redding disc. For those that don't know, Stax Profile discs are made up of rare/alternate/album cut tracks that are selected by other artists. Steve Cropper was the one that selected the tracks for the Redding disc, as he was not only the guitarist for Stax, but was also a collaborator with Redding. In the liner notes he talks about the plane crash and how right after it happened, he was in the mixing booth finishing "Dock of the Bay"; he said that that was one of the hardest experiences that he ever had to go through, having lost his friend.

Many, many musicians cite the Beatles appearance on Ed Sullivan as the moment for them. The instant when they knew something was up and playing music was where is was at.
I was still a little too young for that to happen for me in ’64. For me, that moment was the first time I saw the Monterey Pop film. In a sea of outrageously great moments (Airplane, Who, Hendrix, etc.) Otis Redding’s performance was at or near the top. I was mesmerized.

This would be the ultimate signed Otis Redding photo. It reads "Respect - Otis Redding."
