Hi Guys- Am getting back to playing music more seriously again, and would LOVE to hear input from you guys on what ya'll are running your guitars through.

I'm looking for basically a bedroom amp; something I can take to "Living room jam sessions", nothing too large or serious at this point. On a tight budget, so looking for the best value per sound quality I can find.

Something that will deliver a good "Byrds jangle"; I'm playing a Ricky Carl Wilson 12 string with the Janglebox enroute. ALSO; what about amps w/onboard modelling vs. an economy multi effects pedal, and what kind of multi effects are good ones for the money??

Les Fradkin mentioned to me, that for recording, he goes straight to the board, with the Janglebox and Vox Tone Lab pedal enroute. This does seem to be the standard for recording Ricky-12's; I believe this is how Roger has done it since at least "Back from Rio"?

But yeah; need something that I can play around on, that's going to sound reasonable. Don't need to make a ton of racket, or fill up Carnegie Hall, etc.

In "Old school terms", something between a Fender Champ, and a Twin Reverb, I'm thinking.

Been out of the loop for so long, there is so much to look at it!

And something that will also do justice for "Six string twang & rock" as well. If I plug in an Epiphone Casino, Tele, ES-335, etc, still get a "Justice" sound.

A good, all-around reasonable, not too large amp.

Don't ask me what I'm playing through right now, as I'm far too embarrassed to tell you.

How about a Blackface Deluxe Reverb RI? It's tube, it's Fender, and hit has reverb. Crank the mids and bang!

I think an important part to answering "which amp" is how loud you want to play. I love the tone I get from a Jangle Box into my Vox AC30TB, but to get the sound I have to crank her up! I want to come home from work and play in the evenings without becoming neighborhood public enemy No 1.

I want a small amp, with low noise, that gives "The early Byrds Tone" at about the same volume as an acoustic dreadnought.

I use a Kustom 36 Coupe, a modern 36-watt, all-tube amp with reverb (6L6 power, 12AX7 preamp) ... the folks who used it at the last SoCalCon learned how nice Ricks sound through it. Dealers often have them deeply discounted on eBay, and used ones are even cheaper. One cool feature it has is a "lead boost" (footswitch-controllable) that allows one to give an adjustable-level boost, perfect for those leads that need to cut through the mix.

Ditto on the PR. I have an early '70s PR that has been totally refurbished and it is a great sounding amp; keep in mind that unlike other silverface Fenders, the PR is still a blackface circuit underneath, so the tone is pure '60s Fender.

I second the RI Deluxe Reverb, I've owned one for five years and I can't say enough good thinks about this amp. The reverb and tube vibrato are better than the original 60's amps.

Hank, does the DRRI use a photoresitor type of tremolo or the output tube bias type?

Both use tubes in the circuit but the one with the photoresistor is the 'classic' circuit that Leo ended up liking best for whatever reason, and the varied-bias circuit is an earlier design.

Hi Jeff, I can't compare eletronic designs but I can tell you from experiance that the vibrato is much more intense and defined than the original Fender amps of the 60's. I love that RI Deluxe and would some day like to get a RI Super-reverb just for the heck of it. Also I have to tell you I like to ABY the Deluxe with my Marshall Bluesbreaker combo [30 watts 2x12s]. The two together could conquer the world.

My SFDR with a JangleBox works well. My Victoria Victoriette (2x10, 6L6s) with the JangleBox works even better.
