'Out of phase' pickup wiring question....

If you suspect that a guitar/bass has pickups that are wired out-of-phase, can I just reverse the leads on the back of the pickup in question, or would I have to take the 'guard off to re-solder the leads to the pots differently? P/up in question is a bass bridge p/up, thanks muchly..

John, it wouldn't matter which end of the wire that you switched the leads on. Do it on the end you feel would be easier. My thinking is it would be easier on the control cavity end of the wire, but that's just my opinion.

Joey, when I got the p/up I never checked the leads at the p/up end to see if they were on the way they should be, but I used another bass of mine that I know was original and proper as a guide to solder up everything in the cavity end. So, what I'll probably do is remove the strings and just lift the bridge p/up out of it's hole and reverse them at that end. Hopefully that'll do it.....Thanks bro.

You have to be careful when un-soldering and re-soldering to the ground lug/locking washer on the screw under the pickup mount, since there are also two other pickup leads there. You want to be sure they are all soldered very well on that lug.

I was on the phone with TC laughing my *** off about some things I saw at an "All Natural Products" show today in Santa Monica when I edited that post. I went to fix a typo and I hit the quote button instead of the edit button. That's not the first time that I've done that either!!

No, Diane collects Fairy, Angel and Mermaid figurines and artwork. It's got to be the really nice stuff though.
