I want a rick with the vintage tone and I dont really want a newer ric. So when were the caps removed?

It think it was sometime in '84, maybe '85.

adding or removing a .0047 capacitor to a 4001/4003 bass is very easy ...

Part of the vintage sound was the 500k ohm tone capacitors in the pre 1990 basses ...
