"Collected item" is now available on the register

Maybe some of you noticed - a few items have "(CI)" added to their description.
This tells that the item does not belong to the person who added it and that it was gathered from a publicly available source (such as ebay).
Since the purpose of the register is to gather as much information as possible for statistical purposes - Peter and I decided that as long as these items are specially marked - these is no harm in adding them.

A wrong "collected item" would be going to your friend's house, peeking at his serial and publishing it as a "collected item". This is wrong as this information is NOT publicly available.
Additionally - asking a seller on ebay for the serial number for an item that does not include the serial number on the description and then publishing it is NOT okay (The seller confided you with the serial and did not make it publicly available).
Such entries will be removed.

A good "collected item" would be one that is publicly available for everyone to see, for example - ebay items, online articles, gbase items, etc... The idea is that if there is a Rickenbacker out there with all the relevant details (type, serial number, finish, etc...) there is no harm in having it added to the register as long as it is marked as "collected item". This way - no privacy is being violated as this information is public and we do make the information on the register more accurate.

When you add a new "collected item":
  1. Make sure to mark the "collected item" checkbox at the bottom of the page
  2. Make sure to add a note stating that this is a collected item, an example ebay item comment would look like this:
    Collected from Ebay, item #123456789
Other items should contain a link to the source of your information (NOTE: items without reference will be removed).
  3. Fill in the publicly available details, most ebay listings contain the city, state and country in which the item is located, please use them and NOT your details.
We urge everyone to participate and add as many publicly available entries as possible.

A small tip: before adding your record run a small search on the serial to make sure it is not already there to avoid wasting time on trying to add existing records.

I have a currently disorganized bunch of such data, mainly from eBay, on limited edition models, but I probably did not record the location from the eBay ad. I may add them to the register as I find them.

A wrong "collected item" would be going to your friend's house, peeking at his serial and publishing it as a "collected item".
Just to be clear: if a friend has a Rickenbacker and isn't a member here but you ask him and he doesn't mind having the details about his axe included in the Register, that would be okay?

Yes, Charles. That would certainly be fine. You might also persuade your friend to register on the forum too. That way he could make changes to his own registration including uploading photos of it.

I just submitted my first "collected item" in the registry, and now the guitar is coming up as part of my records (even though I don't actually own it) and was wondering what might happen if the owner attempts to register it themselves at a later date.

Will their new entry overwrite mine, or will they be told the guitar is already in the registry?

What if they submit different details to my original listing? For example, a guitar might be currently registered as "JetGlo", but a new owner re-registers it as "black".

It will appear under your items so you could fix it if you find an error.
It is specially marked as "collected", just checkout the item description on the viewitem page and you'll see that "collected item" is marked as yes.

We decided to remove the "(CI)" indication as it simply pollutes the main list, having this data available in the viewitem page is enough.

"my records" means the records you added, they don't have to be yours (like in this case) but they were entered by you.

If someone will try to register an existing item it will fail, telling him that the serial number already exist, in such a case the person will simply contact us and we will fix it.

Hmmm,

Just a thought, with a COLLECTED ITEM, I'd imagine it isn't ok to copy the pictures from the AD to add toe the Register?

I'd ASSUME a copyright situation would apply?

IE: Ebay auction has complete pictures with serial number, I enter the info into the Register, but what about the pictures?
Can I get a ruling on this one guys?

Thanks!

Tony: Providing the photos are posted in the public domain and there is no copyright indicated, I see no problem with posting them.

From what I understand, any non copy written picture that would be posted in the registration area would be copy written automatically to this site.
I have to get working on mine, hopefully today!

When you register a guitar and it has been changed - Say you put a set of toasters on it - Should it remain on the register as bought.
I changed out my tuners and pickup covers to vintage style and if I post a picture it somewhat represents the wrong thing... :?
I know this isn't a big deal but I'm sure I'm not the only one who has done a few things to their Rick.

I just put a deposit down on a 360 AFG which I will be changing the tuners to Rick Vintage style, like on my 360 JG, and probably the pickups to Toasters or Toaster Covers on HiGians. I don't mean to cause trouble, but this is the way I like the guitars and you can't order them this way even though modified entirely with Rickenbacker parts.

So if I post a picture of these guitars although looking stock, they are not what I bought and won't be on the Rickenbacker books as such, should they still be registered as bought but picture posted as modified :?:

This may clear things up for others that have modded their Ricks when considering posting their guitars.

Kevin: Modifications made to your instrument can certainly be shown. I would make a note in the comments section about how the instrument was modified.

Yah.. and then when you ACTUALLY BUY one of these collected items with the original paperwork you are told that you DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT to change that record when you go to register it.

The "I think I saw it's" should be placed in a holding pattern. Maybe given their own forum so folks on the prowl can find someone with a particular model for sale.

Robert: Welcome and thank you for the comments. Should you wish to make a change to the register following the purchase of an instrument that is already on record then all you have to do is contact [email protected] and I will change the record so that you can upload photos and add your own information. Sending along your serial number and your username makes the process easier. I look forward to your request. Please accept my apology for the inconvenience.
