Sean;

Do you know the story behind the bass?

Is it the same bass that they both played?

i would almost guarantee that it's the same bass but i don't know the story behind it. i do know that thin lizzy is one of lemmy's all time faves and he had brian robertson play on motorhead's 1983 album 'another perfect day.' i would imagine that sometime in that era, lemmy and phil were partying together and the bass exchanged hands.

I posted about this on the MOtorhead board. I'll update if I get any info.

Substitute beer for coke or meth and you may have something.

Interesting! Lemmy was my main reason to buy a Rickenbacker. Offcourse I found a lot more reasons once I had one.... :wink:

Ah, so many connections here. Thin Lizzy were the reason I wanted to be in a band, after seeing them on tv during the Live and Dangerous tour. My first 2 bass heroes were Phil & Lemmy. Having little money at age 17 I was originally going to get a cheap black P Bass copy out of a catalogue and put a chrome scratchplate on it, but my dad ( a semi-pro jazz musician) stepped in and helped me get my first Ric, which was my first choice (a Ric was actually the first bass I ever saw in the flesh and I'd fallen utterly in love). Both Lem and Phil remain true icons to me. John Sykes (featured in the clip) is from the town where I live, and where his stepdad owns a studio (John occasionally pops over to visit). I've recorded/rehearsed there many times over the years, and had a chat with John a year or so ago about how Lizzy were so influential to me; he said the same thing. And our drummer (and one of my 2 best mates) looks the spitting image of Rick Wakeman, so much so he's been stopped in the street before now! Oh, and Lizzy, Motorhead and Yes are among my 3 favourite bands of all time...thanks for posting the clip, that's awesome.

Perfectly understandable. :)

Now I know what was behind Lemmy getting his own Rick signature bass--it was to keep him away from dreadfully-modded stock instruments. Not that it worked 100%...
