If your dream amp is a blackface Fender Twin, why not try and get as close as you can, without the "vintage blackface" bit. Here's three recent eBay auction listings for blackface reissues or silverfaced '70s, which are all around your budget:-

on such a budget i'd wait and save some more money but if i needed something i'd look on ebay for older gibson falcon ga19rvt or old ampeg reverbrocket and i'd forget about chorus or some mesa boogie if you insist on more overdriven sound. than you have bunch of silverface/postsilverface/jahn era amps and rivera era amps that are great amps for around $300 -$600. when you keep an eye around enough you'll find it. i used 80s fender/ rivera designed concert for couple years and was quite happy with it and rick 12. i'd suggest to stay away from reissues for two reasons 1) how they are wired 2) why to support some corporative @#$ by buying an amp made for peanuts in mexico.

I'm very happy with the Reverend Hellhound I picked up. It's a 1 x 12 tube combo amp switchable between 40 & 60 watts. They can be had for less than $600.

Pedal-wise, check out the Janglebox and Tracy Sands' "Scream Dracula Scream" booster made specifically for a 12 string.

I'm with Dusan on the idea of a vintage Reverberocket...these are very clean and the reverb is legendary. But the last 30 or so on the 'Bay I've seen were quite beat-up; must be a sign of user-love.

I was just at Timeless Guitars yesterday and Clyde has a vintage Ampeg, not sure which model. I will have to check with him Monday or after the new Year.

Christian: I recently acquired a Fender red knob "The Twin" (1990) in near mint condition for $500. All it's bells & whistles aren't necessarily to my purist tastes, but it's got the head room and a great clean tone. I suggest sorting 'round for red knob Super 60/112/210 combo amps (as well as red knob Twins) from the 90's. They're bargains on the used market and offer tons of headroom for a Ricky 12.
