That's vintage smegma between the knurls, too. If you remove that do they gain or lose value?

Sweet Jeebus! They're up to $2550.00 after 8 bids!!
Amazing.
I suppose you could run them through an ultrasonic cleaner if you wanted to de-gunk them without abrading the old bakelite. They do look cool.

It seems outrageous that two old knobs could fetch such a price, however it's worth recognising that a 1954 Fender Stratocaster, from the same early batch, would currently fetch around $80,000 to $100,000.
Let's say you had an example missing these original "short-skirted" knobs, your guitar's value would be at the lower end of the scale. Acquiring these little babies for $2500 would actually make sense if it brought your Strat back to originality, thus increasing the whole guitar's value beyond the cost of the knobs.
These knobs were used on the earliest Strats ever made and only for a short three or four months. They would be in high demand.
For other mind-blowing prices, have a look here:-

A friend on another forum has a friend who got these three 55 strat nobs for $75 and they came attached to this guitar.Well that was back in the 70's.My best friend refinished his 1961 strat in the early 80's so I guess things were a little different then.

How good would that be? Finding a 1950's era Strat for $75...wicked!
But hey, the one pictured above has the "common" knobs and not the $2500 short-skirted variety!

That's why it is only worth $75!

when I have cracked plastic knobs I throw them away and buy new ones ... Ebay proves that there is a sucker born every minute ... and if you list **** at outrageous prices somebody just might buy it ...
