I now have a Traynor YCV-80 with 2 Celestion Seventy/80 speakers. I have already put the Eurotube Blues tube set in and I need to upgrade the speakers as these are a tad shrill for me. The fellow at Eurotube recommended the weber Blue Dog and Silver Bell. I read some reviews and they seem to be nothing special to write home about. That did give me an idea though. This amp is basically a Twin as it has 4 6L6 output tubes and a 2x12 cab. How many folks have two different model speakers in a cab going? I have a chance to trade(+cash, it is a store!) for a G12M-70 and a G12K-85, which according to my research give more bottom end than the Seventy/80. I know some use either of those and leave one stock, that way you pick up more bottom and still have the ability to be "shrill".

So, I am wondering who has put a low end monster and a high end monster in the same cab, and does it smooth out the overall tone in the process?

I don't, and I like vintage D-series JBLs that would be too shrill to you, but the two-different-speakers-in-one-cab idea is used by Avatar:

If you are looking for a blues tone, Avatar's Hellatones might work, as they are broken in:

We start with a stock great sounding classic G12H30 Celestion. We convert it into a Hellatone by aging it slightly and by exercising the suspension for 15 hours so when you get it, it has a warmer tone on the very first note. This process gives the Hellatone 30 an even richer low end than it already had.

I have a G12M-70 in my Princeton Reverb. The tone is very sweet that is not shrill at all. The tone is a bit midrangy but I think that is more an issue with the amp itself, not the speaker; there is no mid tone control on the PR, so I will at some point swap out the resistor that sets the mid level to lower it a bit.

I forgot to mention that I had a Marshall model 1936 2x12 cab with Celestion G12T-75s in it and it wasn't bright enough for me (and that's why I sold it).

So, it sounds like either one would go great with the Seventy/80, and if it's still too bright, just drop in another. Case closed, at least til I get the speaker. Next weekend I hope, I am dealing with a lost wallet this weekend!!!
