Hmmmm....Mint FG V63....And you're in the US, right?

They changed a bit over the years (oddly enough for a RI), but values don't seem to differ much whether they're early or late in the run. I'd say:*

$1000-1500 -can't go wrong

$1500-$1800 -still damn good

$1800-$2000 -great deal

$2000-$2200 -good deal

$2200-$2400 -reasonable

$2400-$2600 -its a great bass, have you inspected it in person? Maybe!

$2600-$2800 -a little on the high side

$2800-$3000 -you could probably do better if you wait for the next one!

$3000-$3250 -If you inspect it in person and it's NOS from the dealer with original tags and warranty, and THIS is the one, then maybe!

$3250 & up - You got taken. You probably bought your bass from a shop (local to me) that I won't spend another dime in!

8)

*Opinions expressed in this post are just that. Somebody's opinion. Everybody has one. Yours may be different!

If it's at under $2.5k, snag it. You can't go wrong with a good vintage-style bass!

Two years ago Marc Seligman could not get $1500 on Ebay for the JG one he sold to me. The instrument market sure is weird.

I was supposed to pick it up today but something came up. I'm either going tomorrow or Monday.

Rub it in Ted...

Truth is (imo) it's the greatest production Rick ever made..right now though, and for many reasons there is tremendous interest in late 70's 4001s.To see so many going in the $1500 range appears odd, as there were plenty sold under 1K last year. the v63 seems undervalued to me as it should probably go for double.

Colour seems to be a factor here it would seem.

The JG is rather unloved it seems, with the MG basses somewhere in the middle. I sold my MG for $2.2K and it was really a really nice example. FG seem to consistently fetch the highest prices, as even one of the Clownglo bursts made more than mine a couple of weeks previous and it didn't look anywhere near as impressive IMO...

All subjective as ever...
