I love my rick 330 but despise the over sized Black Hardshell case. I only take my rick out of the house for a 30 minute guitar lesson once a week. Does anyone here carry there rick in a gig bag? If so whats the best one to get?

When I bought my 330, it did not come with a case, just a gig bag. That was quicly remedied.
The case is worth the hassle, imo, and my old strat has the scars to prove it from the 2 or 3 years it spent in a gig bag.

Yeah, I'm thinking you'd be regretting that decision at some point....I've managed to ding really nice guitars due to a moment's inattention in the safety of my house...a lot can happen in a 30 min trip.

Use the case. It's like a seat belt--maybe inconvenient, but you will someday mightily regret not using it.

Save the gig bags for Squier minis and such.

Ricks and gig bags should never be used in the same sentence. (Damn...I just did it!)

I think the "GIG" in gig bag is short for Guitar Injury Guaranteed!

Yeah use the case my Tele has battle scars all over the place and i now wish id had used the hard case.Or if your into your 330 getting bashed try a gig bag

We agree with the general premise that putting a Ric in a gig bag is about like driving a Rolls-Royce in a mud-a-thon. That said, if this is a big issue to you, there is an alternative that might be called a "gig case". Here is a link to consider. We ordered this for a Mexican Strat that was given to us, sans case. It came in yesterday, is very sturdy, lightweight, and will more than adequately protect the instrument. This particular case would only fit Rics like the 350, 620, etc., but you might be able to find something similar which would accommodate your 330.

Henri - don't listen to these naysayers! For your purposes, and with some reasonable amount of care, a decent gig bag will be perfectly ok to protect your precious Rickenbacker on its brief forays from your house.

I've been carrying my 650 back and forth to practice, and to church most Sundays, in a Kaces gig bag I bought from Guitar Center. 6 years later, the guitar is just fine.

Now, where are the keys for the Rolls-Royce?

After asking the same questions I started using my hardshell.
However - I think you guys a bit exaggerate.
I agree that putting ANY instrument in a thin cheap gigbag will result in dents and damage, however - I very thick padded gigbag like the one I used for my 4001 can take ALOT of punishment, there is NO chance the guitar would get a single dent in it, the only things that can happen to it is:
1. If it falls - the shock will not spread across the guitar like in a hardshell and rather be concentrated on the area that was hit. A dent? no way - the shock spread area is too big for a dent, however - it might get the neck broken or one of the buttons (especially the pickup selector) broken. I never dropped my guitar and I am not planning on doing so now that I am using a hardcase...
2. The big tunning heads of a bass can suffer a little bit from being pretty big and at the edge of the case, since I have closed back grovers this was my motivation to start using the hardshell case.

I guy I used to play with used a gig bag for his 330/12. He whacked the headstock going through a doorway at a gig. Three of the tuning keys broke right through the side of the headstock. He got it fixed but it was quite noticeable due to all the splintering. My 2 cents.

Yup, as a said - my only motivation to move from my padded gig bag to the hardcase was the tuning heads.
