Travelled to Darlington Civic Theatre tonight to see my first concert of the year. I was very encouraged by about an 80 % full theatre.

First Pauline Black came on stage and introduced herself and said that she would also be hosting the soul evening. She then introduced Eddie Floyd. he came on stage looking immaculate in a dark pin strip suit, black shirt and white tie. the pin strip also had a glint to it. He looks very good at 72. He can still sing as well. His set included, "Soul Man", "6345789", "Something You Got", "Big Bird" and of course "Knock On Wood"

Pauline Black came on and sang her set of songs next. Her musical career is mostly remembered for her lead singing in The Selecter (she has since acted quite a bit). Her songs included "Rocksteady", "I Can See Clearly Now", "Let Your Yeah Be Yeah", "My Boy Lolipop", "Young Gifted and Black" and she finished with one of The Selecters main hit "On My Radio".

After the break Geno Washington came on stage, backed by the latest version of The Ram Jam Band, who had also backed the other singers on the night. Unlike Floyd, he hadn't made much effort in appearance, wearing black trousers and a black v necked t-shirt. He was still full of energy and churned out many of the songs he is famous for singing during the times of his very successful album sales. "Que Sera Sera", "Michael (He's A Lover)" and plenty of other soul classics mainly from Stax artists.

A great start to the year and something a little different. My main disappointment was that I was only able to get a photo of Pauline Black as the others didn't come out to meet and greet. I did get one of Geno on stage but there just wasn't enough light. Here they are anyway.

Pauline Black is awesome!
I was lucky enough to open for The Selector in the early 90's, and she was wonderful. Very gracious and charming, and a superb performance.
