Any tips on where to locate an AC adapter center pin positive for the Janglebox? Seems to be easier said than done.

I get mine for around $10-$12 or so from the electronics department at places like Wal-Mart and Target. The ones I buy have the small wire coming out of the transformer and it has a tiny two-prong plug on it's end. Then they give you a little rack full of adaptors to fit various gizmos and the plug on the wire plugs into the adaptors two different ways. One way makes the pin positive and the other way makes the pin negative. You can even get one with a slide switch to put out various voltages if needed

Radio Shack should be able to help you as well - the makers of the JangleBox chose to go with the opposite of the norm for effects pedals for some reason. I do recall a response from them after a similar post quite a while back, which said that it was done to keep noise low.

Interesting. I love my Janglebox, but quiet it is not...at least with a 9 volt battery. If I find center positive 500 mA 9v adapter , will the hissing cease?

this is not a cheap option but i have tossed all the small power supplies last year and got bbe brick aka supa charger - mainly because it works on european voltages as well so i don't have to change my setup around.. i am happy with it, it does not make jangle box completely quiet (and i didn't expected it would) but it was audible improvement. no matter what power goes in janglebox it will make some noise with single coils. it is quiet with humbucking.

Jere: I notice no difference between an adaptor and a 9 volt battery when it comes to the noise of the JangleBox. You will have less noise if you stay away from the treble boost position.

Also, if you already have an appropriate pin neg power source, we stock a 3-inch reverse polarity converter cable that works fine with your JangleBox.

Two significant variables (but certainly not the only ones) to consider when dealing with noise: 1) the cable you use; and 2) where your guitar is positioned relative to your amp when you're playing, especially in confined quarters. I realize these things may seem annoyingly obvious, but I find it interesting how often they're overlooked or ignored.

Even if you use high-quality cables, if they've had a few years of serious gigging time, been packed and unpacked, yanked on, etc., they can introduce quite a bit of additional noise. It's amazing how new cable can diminish, or even eliminate those issues.

JangleBox, for the most part, gets decent marks for not being excessively noisy, but any compressor will add some noise. I'd personally stay away from adding a noise gate to the signal chain, because, for the most part, those things give your tone that blanket-over-the-amp, roll-off-the-highs sound that the JB was developed to help you avoid.

Thanks for the news regarding the converter cable Steve. This is something that I need to explore. Will the cable let you go from the Boss negative cable with multiple terminals to the JangleBox.

Peter, I know it works fine with Boss power adapters, but not sure about the "multiple terminals" part.

Steve: What I should have should have referred to is the Boss adaptor daisy chain cable, Steve.

Steve: I probably shot off my mouth about noise. The Janglebox is a vital part of my rig, and I couldn't love it more...amazing pedal with both my Rick 330/12 as well as a Fender Strat. The single coils on the Strat ('54 Custom Shop P/Us) are probably more to blame, although I wouldn't think of switching pickups. What noise I get I can live with...makes it interesting. Peter, you're right about the bright switch, but for me that is easy to avoid. I do use high-end cables (Lava), all fairly new.

Yep I love my Jangle Box and I'd love to get a power supply for it!

Peter, right now the best way to order either the adapter or a reverse polarity cable from us is to just send an e-mail request to [email protected] with your address, and we'll ship the item with an invoice. In the U.S. the adapter is $24.00 + $2.50 S&H. Converter cable is $6.00, which includes S&H. Shipping to Canada is obviously a bit more, which we'd have to compute based on location.

We've been planning quite a few changes for the web site since last September, but things can get quickly bogged down in JangleBox land if we get several large orders at one time, which we did starting last October.
