'72 4001 ... how's it look?

I just bought this:

http://www.gbase.com/Stores/Gear/GearDe ... em=1803883

December 1972 4001 Jetglo. Has some issues I know about, including replaced tuners and bridge pup (repro 4001 parts). I'm also pretty sure it does not have the notched or split tailpiece that I thought all '72s should have. There's quite a bit of wear on the back but I think the front will clean up well, and the checkered binding looks nicely ambered.

Am I missing anything else about this bass? I guess I'll be on the lookout for some wave grovers to go on it.

Whoops, it looks like they already pulled the gbase listing. Might still be on the eBay store somewhere. Anyone else see the pics before they removed them?

Congrats, Jake! I saw it on there yesterday. I don't remember any issues other than what you listed.
There's not many clean ones left out there. It was probably a wise choice to pounce if you want one with these features.
That's what motivated me to jump on the two I just got.

Hm. He's already pulled the gbase and ebay listings, and I didn't think to save the pics. I'll see if he can email them to me.

Jake, you seem to have the quickest 'click' on the board...you always land the best deals...

i hesitated on this one due the noted non-original parts. did you see the crack in the pickguard?

any idea on what it looks like 'under the hood'?

I do have a quick trigger finger, and I have a hard time resisting a bargain (I'm not sure if this one was a bargain). I noticed the possible pickguard crack, too. My thought process on this is that this is, in its base form, a more desirable bass than my May '73. If it plays as well, and the other issues aren't too bad, I'll probably sell the '73 and take my time restoring the '72 while using it as my main player. If the '72 isn't what I'd hoped, I should be able to recoup some/all of the costs. Either that or I was temporarily hypnotized by the inlays. Could be either one.

well, i've got an identical '72 to the one you just snagged (save for the fact it is all original). it is a great bass-

do let me know if you decide to part with the MG!

That was a good teaser, huh? Yeah, what with buying a bass yesterday and another today, I think something's going to have to give.

I recently came into some discretionary income. It's funny how quickly these things are coming up. I just missed out on two other Ricks over the weekend.

The funny thing is, I don't actually spend a ton of time looking for these things (well, I look every day, but not more than a couple times). I've just had good luck spotting them when they're posted. Right around 5pm central time has been my sweet spot for eBay.

Here is the front closeup. I guess that's a non-original tailpiece?

Don't worry, it happens to a lot of Jetglos:
