How About Uriah Heep?

Uriah Heep was the first real Rock concert I went to see in late 1971. We had just about played their first self-titled album to death that summer, and they headlined at the Ohio Theater in Columbus. This was most likely their Salisbury tour, and Ken Hensley and the boys did not disappoint. Got to hear all my favorites from the first album - Gypsy, Bird of Prey and Dreammare.

I really like Look at Yourself, D&W, Magician's Birthday and Salisbury. Great band and highly influential.

They were a great band that were arguably ahead of their time, much of the time. They crossed quite a few genres at will as if to prove a point that they could be comfortable playing anything that rocked.

A friend and Heep fan opined that "they were almost too good musicians for what they played."
I still believe that the "Easy Living" on the Live at Shepperton "74 disc is the greatest rock tune ever, though the version on Urian Heep Live isn't far behind. Talk about a Wall of Sound! Awesome.
Saw them in Central Park sometime before 1975 but after some personnel had passed on. The fairly recent DVD is worth purchasing, even if there is a flaw.
I'm lucky to have a recording of me playing bass on Sweet Lorraine live in 1973 but the tape reel ran out before Easy Living. That sucks, but maybe it is just as well...

I really like Uriah Heep especially the early stuff. Heep, Purple, Sabs were it for me back then. Heep is still together as far as I know, but I haven't 'eard much new stuff.

Man, that Hammond organ sound is killer. It really adds to the flavor of their music. Too bad those things are a bear to move arouind.....

Yes, Ken Hensley from Uriah Heep and Jon Lord from Deep Purple did a lot towards making the Hammond B3 a staple for rock bands in the early 70s.
