Funny that none of mine came after 1987! Some on this list can rotate out from time to time with albums like Metal Church's The Dark or Death's Individual Thought Patterns falling in the mix. The one thing that will always remain true is that Powerslave is my #1.

Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Overkill - Feel the Fire
Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
Megadeth - Peace Sells
Anthrax - Spreading the Disease
Warlord - Deliver Us
Yngwie Malmsteen - Marching Out
King Diamond - Abigail
Sacred Rite - Is Nothing Sacred?

So what about your list?

OK...Sean's opinion time:

1st wave v. 2nd wave...totally subjective. Personally nothing from that era would make my top 10 except for Sabbath's s/t or Mob Rules. There was, for me, no metal before Sabbath. It was just hard rock. Most everything else that gets described as 1st wave is nothing but bluesy rock to me. Heavy does not equal metal. Sure, Blue Cheer was loud and heavy and sure Led Zeppelin was loud, but so was The Who. Again, heavy does not equal metal.

As for "YOUR" metal, post your list. That's what this thread is all about. What's metal to one is obviously not metal to another.

Maybe I should get Peter to change the title of this forum section to "Denim and Leather - the 2nd Wave of Metal"

No order. Just what I could think of. I don't have a top spot.

King Diamond - House Of God
Mercyful Fate - Don't Break The Oath
Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
Queensrÿche - Rage For Order
Judas Priest - Painkiller
KISS - Music From The Elder

All I got from seperate bands. I won't repeat myself now.

His first few are up there for me too, but House Of God to me has some killer stuff on it. The story, HoG the song, Trees have eyes. It's brillaint to me. I do agree though, Spider's Lullabye sucks ***. It's only half a story. I can't forgive that. I can forgive Fatal Portrait because he just got out of Fate, but still. Sure he was in Fate again during 95 when Spider's came out, but he coulda put some more work into it. From The Other Side is the only good thing.

The others I would have put on the list from him woulda been any of the first 5 records and The Puppet Master. That record is sick.

Puppet Master was good and the new one has some good tunes on it as well.

I haven't given the new one a shot yet. I don't like how dry his falsetto's are. They need "Oath" production again.

I'm just saying the term was coined for those bands. It is what WE called heavy metal at the time. The direction of metal changed a bit and BS had a great deal to do with that.

1, Black Sabbath- Paranoid
2. Grand Funk - Grand Funk (Inside Looking Out)
3. Foghat - Foghat
4. Led Zeppelin - II
5. Alice Cooper - Killer
6. Deep Purple - Machine Head
7. Steppenwolf - Live
8. Uriah Heep - Look At Yourself
9. Nazareth - Hair of the Dog
10. Who - Live at Leeds

There it is..........

Sean definitely give Drift another listen.

Charly, it's nice to see your input here. I agree with Sean about the 1st wave v. 2nd wave being totally subjective.

I also don't think bands like Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin and The Who were heavy metal bands, however they were definitely a heavy influence for metal bands.

It wasn't easy to narrow my list down to ten albums. I changed it several times. It's tough to leave many albums off that list.
