I just received the newest Vintage Guitar magazine today. Lo and behold, there are two Rickenbacker articles. Only a page each but finally a bit o' press for the 481 and the 4005. Cool.

PS: In the Arlen Roth interview, they showed his '68 366/12 Burgandy. Very deep, almost Black. And remember the '69 or so 365 OS in Shaded Blue that sold on Ebay for $18k? Rumbleseat Music featured it in a full page ad. Nothing but that guitar against a black background, their logo and contact info. Cool.

I just read these articles, and I have to say that neither of these instruments got the reviews I thought they would get. Those are two instruments I've admired for a long time, and I thought they'd get more flattering treatments, especially considering some of the other stuff they've reviewed in there. Don't get me wrong; it's a fantastic mag, they just confused me on this one.

Oh, I don't. I still want one of both. They seemed to really ho-hum them down, whereas they'll go all nuts for some godawful 80's Gibson or something like that. Oh well, different strokes. And then again, this is just what I got out of the article. Someone else might have a different take on it.

To be honest with you, I was never much of a 4005 fan. I didn't dislike it, but it just never smacked me upside the head. That is until I saw one in person for the first time last month. I didn't get to play it or hear it, but what a stunning bass. I never realized how elegant the design was. I'm getting an itch!
