Thumb pick on a bass ?

I must admit I've never seen a bass player use a thumb pick before.

A few years back I played a few gigs when I was pretty sick, and the prescription meds made me physically weak. I used a thumb pick for those gigs. Was easier to grip the pick in my weakened state.

have tried them (kind of a classical a guitar approach to bass) - but makes my thumb tired...

I seen Sting use the nail on his right thumb as a pick.
