So, can anybody tell me a little bit about these two products?
I've read in a few posts about some of you using this stuff.
Is it OK to use on the finish of Rick guitars?
Just curious as to their pros and cons.

Oh, and where can I find this stuff if it's good to use?

Both products are fine to use on your Rickenbackers. Click on the Advanced Search link and search on "Scratch-x" and/or Zymol and on author jingle_jangle for in-depth instructions.

You'll find both products in the automotive section of stores like Target & WalMart, as well as at auto parts and hardware stores.

Is it safe for me to use Scratch-X & Zymol on my other instruments? - 78 Precision Bass and Pedulla basses> I assume yes, but just want to be sure.

I just used some on a 4003 that had a lot of wear ...

i.m.h.o. that should be a sticky subject (always on top within that specific forum). phpbb2 has this capability. So I presume phpbb3 too.

You're good to go with these two products. I just finished applying both to a couple of my Rics. I use Huggies #3 size diapers to apply and hand buff. I suggest localizing the application and letting it sit for a a short spell before removing. If you don't allow the solution to set, you'll find yourself smearing rather than removing it. I've just discovered that Meguiar's Scratch-X DOES indeed contain SILICONE! I know the Scratch-X / Zymol treatment has been recommended here on this forum and even over at the Ric forum and I've used it on my Rics and even on the headstock of my Larrivee L05 thinking it was safe.

This thread at the Larrivee forum seems to confirm that it has silicone from examination of the product's MSDS sheet:

Here I am, and it seems that there's a ridiculous widespread panic because of one person's conversation with someone at Meguiar's, who may or may not be informed on this. In any event, I find the thread on the Larivee Forum to be a mite silly. Words like "tragedy" and terms like "very, very bad".

I had used Scratch-X for literally years on all sorts of manufacturer's show cars, with their $50K paint jobs, and never had a problem with touch-ups on the paint or refins. Personal experience. I have had the MSDS for this product on file since it came out, as required by law. According to the MSDS, is has two ingredients: kaolin (finely-ground clay dust, which is the abrasive) and aliphatic hydrocarbon (otherwise known as mineral spirits, or enamel thinner blend).

Go HERE: http://www.meguiars.com/msds/msds_search.cfm and look for G103 Scratch-X.

If it has any silicone in it, (a) it's very little, and (b) it has had no effect on any refinish job I've done in the past eight years, on car or guitar. I keep it right in my paint mixing room, and never any effect on anything. Oh, (c) if it does have silicone, why don't they post it on the MSDS? I'm not saying either way--I have no way to test it, but I stand behind my continued recommendation of this product. Period.

Now, I wonder how my email notifications keep slipping? I lost "Rickenbacker Guitars" for two weeks, and now I'm no longer notified on "General", and had it not been for Brian Simer's personal email, I'd be oblivious of this tempest in a teacup.
