Rickenbacker part sku 05904 is a schaller starplock that is a direct replacement for the vintage strap bolt. You should be able to order it from a local EU dealer. Check out the Ric boutique at: http://www.rickenbacker.com/cart.asp?ca ... cellaneous

+1 To what Evan said. That's the best way to go.

My personal favorite strap lock system are the rubber washers from a Groelsch beer bottle. They're thick and sturdy and there's no hardware involved - simply fit the washer over your strap pin on the outside of the strap. It'll take a little "elbow grease" to get it over the head of the pin, but these do not fail and they're pretty fun to obtain as well. I've been using this method for close to 10 years and have never had a problem.

I mostly use them too. It's a Dutch beer, so :)
But one rubber wash is too loose or something. I think I will just go for the Schallers.

I guess I'll have to drink some beer

I used to used large steel washers with large wood screws. My straps NEVER came off. I'm a bit more civilized these days, I use the Schallers.

Dunlap makes excellent straploks ... they just don't fit into a Ric quite as nice ...

I think that that brand is spelled Dunlop, isn't it? The problem I have with Dunlops is that the buttons are very hard to drill out. I tried that when I was making some of my DIY Schaller-compatible straplocks from Schaller buttons and modified machine screws.

I use the Schallers and they are very good.

You're right about the spelling Gary. The Dunlops are good, but I just feel uncomfortable about something that works exactly a car keychain holding my Rick on to a strap. I prefer the Schallers.

Schallers here, too. But I did have the piston come apart on one of mine a while back. Luckily, I was holding the neck at the time. The pin you pull is threaded onto a shaft and compresses the spring. It wasn't tight and simply unthreaded and came apart. It might be worth checking yours and snugging up any that are loose with drop of Locktite. The inner end of the shaft is difficult to get hold of and crank down tightly, so the Locktite helps. I'll also sometimes put a drop on the nut that holds the fitting to the strap. In some ways, a strap lock coming apart when you're under the impression that it's pretty much foolproof may be more dangerous than no lock at all, so be sure those suckers are securely assembled and securely attached to the strap and guitar (toss those little ****** screws on the buttons, too - and replace them with Rick-style bolts)

What is a proper way to remove the stock Ric strap bolts? They are a kind of tight on my v63.
