Anybody have any experience with the Guild Starfire 4??
I know Guild no longer makes electric guitars but I've heard these
Starfires 4s are pretty nice. I've had an opportunity to pick up
a nearly new 1996 natural and wondered if I should.

Check the reviews out at

I've never played one but I've never heard anything negative about them. I've been looking for an old Guild B-302 for years.

No problem. I didn't notice the lack of frets until I'd posted the link. These 300 series basses are great! I had a '79 B-301 that I'd bought new and really liked the feel and the tone. Both the 301 and 302 pop up from time to time and aren't very expensive at all when compared with most other instruments. Great value for a nice bass!

Yeah, I played one in a pawn shop a few years back and liked it a lot...then I found Ric basses.

Apologies for resurrecting this old topic, but I've wanted a Starfire for a while now and I think my favorite out of the lot is the Starfire IV. Does anyone here have any experience with these guitars to share?
I think the 12-strings sound lovely, too, but that's a whole other discussion..

I had a B-301 that I gigged for years. I loved that bass. She had show-stopping tone and made me sound a better bass player than I probably am in reality. Pushed her through an Ampeg SVT 350 + 8x10 cab. I had to sell her one day. It almost broke my heart, but a fella's gotta do what he's gotta do.... She was a very well built, professional instrument & I'd love to have her back.

I've had my B-302 since 1986 and wouldn't ever part with it. Every bassist that has ever played it has made me an offer, but it's not for sale. As for Guild 12 strings, a great example of their tone can be heard on the Yes track "And You And I". Steve Howe used Chris Squire's Guild for that track and liked it so much that he contacted Guild to build him a custom model with a cutaway.
My B-302 is currently being refinished to Cherry Mahogany, like this B-301 pictured below:

The refin looks just like the B-301 I let go back in the '90s. Heartbreaker....
