Two '85 4003's on the bay

Post by sloop_john_b »

I've always been sort of half-looking for a Rick guitar or bass that dates to September of '85, my birth month. In one day, two 85's 4003's have popped up on the bay!

The first one, a very late Burgundyglo, was made in January, so i'm going to take a pass. The second is a Mapleglo and appears to be an S. Waiting to hear back from the seller on the exact serial number - if it's a September, stand back (oh, and there will be a '93 v63 for sale!).

Anyone else go looking for birth-month Ricks?

BORN IN 1985?!?!?!?

My son is only 4 years YOUNGER than you are John.....

I feel old...HELL, I am old! LOL.

I couldn't afford a bass made in my year of birth!

I do however, have a SEPTEMBER bass! :D

How come you are passing on the 1985 BG, it looks sweet!

HMMM, probably has a NICE THIN NECK TOO!

Rickenbacker wasn't making basses when I was born. Come to think of it, Fender wasn't, either. :(

Tony and Paul as one old phart to some others (my eldest is two years younger than John) CHEERS! Age does have its benefits ... and when I remember them I'll let you all know.

John...the JG does look dooable and you get all that chrome. The MG seems a littl over priced... although it is in better condition. Good luck in your quest!

My first bass is from my birth month. My first Rick was just a couple months too late (and is now in Tony's collection). Someday I'll add an August '77 Rick to my collection -- I think they were making 4002s then, right? Is an August '77 Walnut 4002 too much to hope for? :?

Wow...a BG 4003. I believe that is a rarity.

John, good luck with your birth month/year bass search.

I doubt I'll be lucky enough to ever but a Rick bass from the year I was born, but at least my '73 4001 Jetglo shares in birth month (August) with me! 8)

JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

I'd love a January '71 - probably never gonna happen, though, so long as I remain a starving "musician"....

Hmmm. a November 61 4001. A nice thought anyway.

Had a 61 PBass for a while. Didn't know the month.

John, you were born the year I graduated from HS!

Birth month Ricks? I doubt it. I'm a Oct '66.

When I got the Feb '71 4001 last month the first thing out of my wifes mouth was "Why didn't you get a Sept '70?" I told her I'll keep my eye open for one!
