Okay, i'm gonna be the rules slightly here George. I haven't gotten into film music much but I have gotten into opera in a big way. The best opera composer, IMHO, has to be Richard Wagner (who was also the librettist to boot!). Here's IMO his greatest prelude and one of the best pieces of music ever written, from Tristan und Isolde. I thought it would be relevant here as it's often cited as an important precursor to what would become "film music" 70 and 80 years later.

The theme music to the movie "Cool Hand Luke," with Paul Newman and supporting Oscar winner George Kennedy was a steel string acoustic guitar piece that was a knockout.

Many years later I thought Cavatina, the theme to "The Deer Hunter," with Robert Deniro and Christopher Walken, was wonderfully rendered by John Williams (the Classical guitarist), and Tommy Tedesco on 2nd guitar - who also was the guitarist on "Cool Hand Luke." How cool is that?

This is one of my all time favourite themes. Unfortunately this clip isn't full length but you'll get the idea.

If you've got a really good PC sound system, CRANK IT UP!!!
